  • Week of 10-23

Hey Ukesters, I don’t know if we can top the week we had last week! What a great two days of uking and fellowship! Thanks to Betty for setting all this up with the Webb-Tigert Duo. Thanks to all who participated! I have attached digital files of the workshop notes and the song we played with W-T, Whispering Hope, in case you want to add it to your tablet. Here is a link to some of the media that I gathered from the events:

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1H4Ul0Ap0KtKJwvMt7mGGhzpAJHnr6FzT?usp=drive_linkI’ve also posted an album on our Ukesters FB page.

You can find it at this link: https://www.facebook.com/media/set?set=oa.2036108180492345&type=3

Thanks to those of you who sent me pics and vids from the events. If anyone else has pics you’d like to share on our FB page, please send them my way.

This week we’ll continue working on our playlists for upcoming events:

Saturday, October 25 – Pink Pumpkin Run (map for location attached) Be there by 8:30 or before. You will need to approach the parking/playing area via Ringold St (next to Streamline Cleaners). Both ends of Sunset will probably be blocked off when you are attempting to get there.

I encourage everyone to participate. It’s the most no-pressure event you’ll ever be a part of with the Ukesters. You’ll need just your uke and maybe a chair if you prefer to sit to play. Just wear your pinkest pink! or (from the website) This year’s theme is “Step Right Up to Prevent Cancer,” inspired by the excitement of the circus! Come dressed as a ringmaster, acrobat, juggler, or even channel your inner tightrope walker or strongwoman. If you offered to loan Eddie some pink apparel, please bring it Thursday.

Thursday, November 6 – Guntersville First Baptist senior adult luncheon at 11 am. There is a limit as to how many can participate. Please email or text me if you would like to participate and I’ll fill the list in the order that I receive your message. I must insist that you be at the next two rehearsals (Oct. 23 & 30) in order to be included for this performance.

Monday, December 8 – a day with Greg Gent (rescheduled from September 8) – Details to be sent out next month

Thursday, December 11 – Terrace Lake at 2:00 – Details to be sent out the week before
Save the date for our 2026 events (so far):

    • February ? (probably 12th or 5th) – Valentines performance at Friendship Church in Albertville
    • Saturday, April 11-Civitan Park, benefit for music programs in the area, time TBA
    • Friday-Sunday, October 9-11 – Uketoberfest at Riverview Campground and Civitan Park

This Thursday, October 23, we will meet at the Guntersville Senior Center. We had a great rehearsal there last week but no decision was made to move there permanently.

I’d like for you to email me or text me your thoughts: Pros/cons of

    1) staying at the library and

    2) moving to the senior center

In addition, I need your vote on where you’d like our meeting space to be in the future. No response from you means you will agree to whatever the majority of responses renders.

** Most Recent Recordings from practice are slowly being processed and added to a temporary MP3 page under the Music page. Eventually they will be all be added to the Music 25 page, you can find the MP3 page here. **

    Hey Ukesters,
Wow! What a great group we had at rehearsal last Thursday! So happy to see all of you together, making music and having fun! Welcome to another newbie, Judy!

    SHIRTS

The Ukesters funds are buying a new short-sleeve shirt for each of us. Johnny recommends that we choose a color that also comes in a long sleeve, so that those who want to can order a second shirt in the same color in long sleeve.

With his suggestion in mind, please look at the shirt color choices and send me the exact name (ex. Indigo blue, Forest green) of your first and second choices of short sleeve colors that also have a long sleeve counterpart. If you wish, you will have an opportunity to purchase a second shirt once the color choice has been decided upon. If you didn’t send me your shirt size or give it to Betty at rehearsal, please email me your shirt size by Tuesday, 9/9.

When you click on a color, it will give you the exact name and also turn the picture to the color you choose. I will tally the results of the color choice “votes” in the next few days. We will finish the discussion of shirts at next week’s rehearsal on 9-11.

    Parking at the library

With our expanding group comes the issue of parking spaces at the library. If you are able to walk a longer distance, please park either on the street to the west of the library, in the top parking lot, or on the opposite side of the museum. Please do not park at the museum on the library side as that is their main entrance with limited parking for their patrons.

    Albertville Farmers Market
    Saturday, September 13
Please arrive between 8:15-8:30 to set up, possibly take a pic before or maybe during a break, and be ready to play at 9 am. They will provide chairs.
Please label everything with your name and/or phone number in the event you should leave something behind.
Please put your music in alphabetical order so that you can find songs quickly.
We’ll do three 20 minutes sets with open mic opportunities and water breaks in between. The playlist will be called, based on the crowd at the moment. If you’re missing a title, please get one from the “extras” books Thursday.
This event would be a great opportunity to experience doing an “open mic.”  The Ukesters group will always be your most supportive cheerleaders!

Please have these titles in your notebook or on your device for rehearsal this Thursday (9-11) and the Farmers Market on September 13.

Those with * denote easier songs/fewer and less difficult chords. It would be a really good idea to put your music in alpha order so that you can switch between songs with ease.

Also, there will be an “Open Mic” opportunity at the Farmers Market; I encourage any of you if you’re so inclined, to just do it! No pressure, good opportunity to get your feet wet doing open mic.

As always, there are copies available in the “extras” books at the library. If you get the last copy of a song, please let me know through text or email so that I can print more. Please don’t tell me during rehearsal…..I will forget! You can also find most of our songs on our website, Ukesters.org under Music 25, and on our Facebook page, The Ukesters! under the Files tab. Once in the files, you can click on “File Name” and it will arrange the titles in (almost) alphabetical order so you can find files easier. If all those methods fail, don’t hesitate to text, email, or call me and I will print you one and bring it to rehearsal. When we have a totally new song, I always have copies available.Shirts:

We will be discussing getting new shirts this fall that Johnny has (again) volunteered to make for us. I need all of you (minus the newbies that submitted your shirt size on your info form) to send me your t-shirt size. I will compile a list of everyone’s sizes so that when we get ready, Johnny will know how many of each size to order. Also, Johnny dropped off some shirts that he had left from previous printings with various colors/designs. There are mostly sizes S, M, and a couple of L available. There is no set price for the leftover shirts. If you want one, give what you can or think is fair. The money goes to our Ukester account that helps to fund our events.

Well, I think my novel is finished. LOL  If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to email, text, or call me. Hope to see you all Thursday, September 4, at the G’ville Public Library, 1-3 pm.

Thank you for being a part of the Ukesters!

  • July 31 information

Hey all, thanks so much for a great showing Thursday at Lakeshore. What a great audience! And congrats to our “newbies” for experiencing their first outing with us!

This next Thursday (July 31) is our last time together until September, unless you are going to participate in the Ukulele classes in August, either as a newb or as a helper. If you’re a newbie and haven’t let me know you’re going to attend, please email or text me to confirm your spot. Also, let me know if you have your own ukulele or need to borrow one. If you’re a “vet” and want to help out, please let me know. We’re supposed to have 13 or more participants, so I can certainly use the help! We could also use some extra ukuleles to loan out.

If you’re a vet and don’t want to help, you have an opportunity to keep strumming together…..at a different location. Cyndy has offered to open the gallery at Mountain Valley Arts Council on Thursdays, at our regular time (1 pm), for anyone who wants to get together. The plan right now is to work on problem areas in songs, strumming patterns from the recent workshop, open mics, and sing-alongs.

The next performance scheduled is at the Albertville Farmers Market on Saturday, September 13, 9am-11am. There will be three rehearsals, July 31, September 4, and September 11, to prepare for this event. I encourage all to participate and also to consider doing an “open mic” during the event. The only other performance in September will be at Terrace Lake Senior Living CommunityDate TBD

From Susan: Below is the menu needs list for the Greg Gent luncheon on Monday, September 8. Please let Susan know if you’re able to contribute any of the remaining items.
